Pouches for my shades

Earlier this summer, I braved the youthfully intimidating Forever21 on Brussels' horrendous* rue Neuve. Shopping tip: if you walk straight past all those badly made clothes, it's got great accessories.

I headed to pay for my tasteful and flattering brown pair of 6 euro sunglasses. And, well, right next to the till was the same pair in HOT PINK.

I decided that 12 euros was not too much to pay for shades to coordinate with literally everything in my wardrobe.

And then I saw this and I had to copy it, from the original tutorial here. The only change I made was to understitch the seam allowance to the lining, to keep everything sitting nicely in place. So far neither pair has been lost or scratched. Result!

* I would like to clarify that I think it is horrendous because really, it is, not just because I am a snobby British expat. For all I know the shopping streets of London are just as bad, although I doubt they smell of waffles and piss in quite the same way.

Work in progress

I stayed up too late last night, cutting things out. I sew in the attic room of our house and it was so peaceful there early this morning, I didn't want to go to work at all. My motivation was rescued by the wearing of another recently finished t-shirt. There will be details and photos of that and of the above, soon.

We're away for a week or so from tomorrow, and I've scheduled some posts with finished projects from this spring and summer. Time to get my work out there (out here?)

I'm here to talk about sewing

None of the people in this picture are wearing something I made.

This is my little family: the ones I mostly neglect in order to sew stuff.  This is the only time I am going to post a photo of them, unless they are modelling something I stitched.

Because I'm not here to talk about my everyday life. I have one, it'll come up, but really - I'm here to talk about sewing.

I'm here to show and tell and ooh and aah over our creations with all you other online sewers out there (I know you're out there!).

I'm here to have discussions about seam finishes and awkward techniques and fashion, patterns, creativity, consumerism and all the rest, with people who both care and know what the hell I'm on about.

I'm Jo, and until I get a flattering picture of myself, that little pincushion icon on my profile is me.

Nice to meet you!
