Cynthia Rowley K2406: pattern giveaway!

You could be forgiven for thinking that I'm giving things away here because I don't like them. However, you would be wrong!

I really, really like this pattern, and this is a share-the-love giveaway!

This raglan-sleeved dress by Cynthia Rowley for Simplicity has a whole load of options: sleeveless, 3/4 length or cut-out sleeves, maxi or high knee/mini length. The back has a neck-to-waist split, but it's very easy to make this shorter for modesty and ease of wearing.

And ease of wearing really is the key here. Because this is a very, very easy dress to wear. How do I know? Because I made one myself, and I wear it all. the. time.

Mine is cotton jersey, which means not only that I could eliminate the back split completely, but also that it is possibly the most comfortable thing I have sewn so far. It's like putting on a flattering, stylish and office-appropriate pair of pyjamas, and I don't think there are many outfits out there in that category.

Unfortunately the black doesn't photograph that well, so you can't see the details (plus the light was low and the photos are blurred, which all helps :-). But you can see the shape of it, and in my opinion that's one of the best things about it. That and the pockets (yay pockets!).

There are clearer pictures, as well as the technical drawings and size chart, on Pattern Review - where the reviews are unanimously positive.

And did I mention too that it's extremely easy to sew? It's easy! The raglan sleeves sidestep all that setting-in difficulty, making this a great dress for a (confident) beginner.

So, want a go? I want you to do it!

I have one unopened, unused copy of this pattern to give away, in sizes 14-22 (Euro sizes 40-48).

Full disclosure: I have this because I got it free with a sewing mag but it's not my size - they kindly sent me another, so I can share this with you :-)

To be in with a chance of winning, just leave me a comment on this post. That's it! If you're stuck for something to say, how about telling me what fabric type and colour you'd make it in? I bet you can come up with more exciting possibilities than black jersey!

The Rules:
  • Open to anyone, anywhere.
  • Only one comment/entry each please.
  • Giveaway ends on 7 December at 5pm/17h PST.

  13. Lucky me this pattern is in my size. I am thinking a dark grey would be lovely so I could wear fun colored tights or sweater with it.

  15. Lovely pattern! I love this type of dresses. I'd made a lot of these dresses. Mini sleeveless for summer in some yellow, orange, pink or aqua with a flowery print, the high knee 3/4 sleeve from a dark grey or black wool for winter, same cut with a lighter fabric for spring and fall. I use this type of dresses all the time.
So, in case I don't win: where can I buy it?

  30. I might try my first voile, perhaps a pattern with solid sleeves and neckline - like a grown up baseball shirt. Then I'd make a fancy version in some flowy knit too!

  31. Just the perfect sizes for us! I might get crazy and buy some knit for it but if not maybe one of the voile's I've been saving.
